The type of edgebander determines the form of Hotmelt. Cartridge hotmelts are suitable for HolzHer edgebanders and granular hotmelts are suitable for all others. The type of glue line determines the type of filler that is suitable. Unfilled glues are used for thin glue lines. The purchasing cost of unfilled glue is about 30% more expensive than filled glue but they yield 30% more. In other words, the cost of unfilled and filled glue is about the same with a visually reduced glue line. Next is the type of panel colors that are used. A large portion of all Edgebanding applications is matching light board surface colors, so a natural Adhesive color is suitable. A brown Adhesive color is suitable for woodgrain board surfaces, and a black Adhesive color is suitable for very dark woodgrains or black board surfaces. The last consideration is heat and moisture resistances. Cabinets around stoves and sinks as well as bathroom vanities or partition walls in washrooms could benefit from PUR or PO Adhesives as they offer the best heat and moisture resistance. It is important to use a PUR cleaner in conjunction with PUR glue.
